About Brian M Masterson, CGA

Brian Masterson, CGA, began his career in real estate in 1994 as a sales and leasing agent, becoming a real estate appraiser in 1996.

Brian earned his CGA designation to become a commercial real estate appraiser in 2017. Prior to this, he earned the SRA designation by the Appraisal Instutute, which is the highest ranking a residential appraiser can achieve. The SRA title is an indication of professional excellence with the ability to provide expert services of a wide-ranging nature.

A member of the Employee Relocation Council, Brian has earned the CRP designation, which shows an in-depth understanding of topics related to employee relocation including appraisal, broker market analysis, national and local policies, and additional subjects related to the best practices of employee relocation.

He has served as a national review appraiser for Illinois’ largest sub- prime lender and served as their chief review appraiser from 2000 to 2005. During the 2000’s Brian trained and directly supervised more than 20 residential appraisers, the majority of which are still practicing appraisers. FHA-approved for both residential and 203K mortgage appraisals since 1997, Brian is also a Certified FEMA Disaster Inspector. He has been invited to speak to the FBIs mortgage fraud task force, has acted as a consultant to the City of Chicago’s Department of Housing and Economic Development, and has been featured as an expert on real estate in both print journals and radio programs.

Active in his profession, Brian serves on the Board of Directors of the Illinois Coalition of Appraisal Professionals (ICAP) and served on the 2010 Public Relations and National Appraisal Coalition Committees.  In 2012 he represented ICAP at the first public meeting of the Appraisal Practices Board, an Arm of the Appraisal Foundation, which is authorized by Congress as the source for appraisal standards and qualifications.

A printable version of Brian's qualifications can be found here.

NOTE : If you are thinking of ordering an appraisal for financing purposes, please consult with your lender first.  Federal law dictates that banks must order the appraisal - not the borrower.
